Key Executive Officers

Eric D. Schlager, Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Schlager is the Chief Executive Officer of The Bulfinch Companies, Inc., an entrepreneurial, value-added real estate investment firm founded in 1936 specializing in the development, acquisition, management, and repositioning of commercial properties in greater Boston.  Now in its third generation, Bulfinch is owned and operated by the Schlager family.

 

Mr. Schlager is involved with numerous business and civic organizations in the Greater Boston area including: Combined Jewish Philanthropies, Real Estate Finance Association, Urban Land Institute, and the Real Estate Investment Advisory Council.  He has been a guest lecturer at the MIT Center for Real Estate, and served on the Board of Trustees of the Fessenden School and The Wellness Community.  He serves on the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Association of Industrial & Office Properties (NAIOP), and previously served as its Chairman and President.  He is a member and research sponsor of the Zell/Lurie Real Estate Center at the University of Pennsylvania.  In addition, he currently serves on the Board of Overseers of the Brigham & Women’s Hospital and the Board of Directors of the Atlantic Charter Insurance Company.

 

Mr. Schlager is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania.

Robert A. Schlager, President

As President of Bulfinch, Mr. Robert Schlager directs and manages the management, leasing, construction and development activities for Bulfinch assets.  With more than 20 years of experience in the real estate industry, Mr. Schlager has been a guest lecturer for the Accredited Builders Association and holds real estate licenses in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and Georgia.  He has been awarded the Certified Property Manager designation by the Institute of Real Estate Management.

 

Prior to joining Bulfinch in 1986, Mr. Schlager was employed at Saunders Real Estate Corporation in Boston, where he was responsible for developing and managing 4 million square feet of commercial office space.  Additional projects included overseeing the construction and management of a 500,000 square foot multi-tenant office building.

 

Mr. Schlager is a 1983 graduate of the Boston University School of Management.

James P. Cronin, Senior Vice President

As Senior Vice President, Operations and Asset Management, Mr. Cronin is responsible for directing and coordinating the day-to-day operations and asset management activities of the organization.

 

Previously, Mr. Cronin was Director of Corporate Accounting for New England Development/WellsPark Group and was a member of the Real Estate Advisory Services Group of Laventhol & Horwath.  Mr. Cronin received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from Merrimack College and is a Certified Public Accountant in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  He is a member of several professional, business and trade organizations.

Mark R. DiOrio, Senior Vice President, General Counsel

Mr. DiOrio is Senior Vice President and General Counsel overseeing all legal matters pertaining to the Bulfinch portfolio. Mr. DiOrio also assists in the analysis, origination and structuring of the company's transactions.  Previously, Mr. DiOrio was an attorney with the Boston law firm of Ropes & Gray and held several management positions at The New York Telephone Company (Verizon).

 

Mr. DiOrio is a summa cum laude graduate of Colgate University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English.  He received his Juris Doctorate with high honors from Duke University School of Law, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif and The Duke Law Journal.  Mr. DiOrio is dedicated to community involvement, and currently serves in a number of volunteer capacities, including as Chair of the Winchester Community Music School Board of Trustees.

 

 

Michael S. Hitchcock, Vice President Financial Reporting & Chief Information Officer

As Vice President, Financial Reporting and Chief Information Officer, Michael Hitchcock is responsible for all accounting, performance measurement, reporting and information technology functions.

 

Prior to joining Bulfinch, Mr. Hitchcock was responsible for several key accounting and finance functions for General Investment and Development, a $2 billion Boston-based commercial real estate investment, development and management company.  He was also affiliated with WellsPark Group and E & Y Kenneth Leventhal Real Estate Group.

 

Mr. Hitchcock is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, North Dartmouth.

Eric J. Nelson, Vice President Acquisitions

Eric J. Nelson is Vice President of Acquisitions and Asset Management, primarily focusing on the origination of new acquisition opportunities.  Previously, Mr. Nelson was a Vice President in the Capital Transactions Group of Lend Lease Real Estate Investments, Inc. and its predecessor company Equitable Real Estate.  Prior to that, Mr. Nelson began his real estate career at Copley Real Estate Advisors.  Over the course of his career, Mr. Nelson has acquired or financed nearly $1 billion of real estate, totaling nearly 5 million square feet.

 

Mr. Nelson graduated from Harvard University with an A.B. in Government and earned his J.D. from Suffolk University. He is an active member of NAIOP, the Real Estate Finance Association and is a member of the Massachusetts Bar.

Michael B. Wilcox, Vice President, Director of Leasing

Michael B. Wilcox is Vice President and Director of Leasing for The Bulfinch Companies, Inc.  Mr. Wilcox is responsible for leasing, tenant retention and evaluating and monitoring occupancy for the company.

 

Prior to joining Bulfinch in 1999, Mr. Wilcox was Vice President at Forest City Commercial Group where he directed the leasing and marketing activities for the University Park development in Cambridge.  Previously, he served as Leasing Director for Beacon Properties, handling portfolio-leasing responsibilities in Cambridge, as well as Boston and northern Route 128. He began his career in 1986 at Cabot, Cabot & Forbes where he served in a number of positions in the areas of development, leasing and property management, for over ten years.

 

Mr. Wilcox holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Urban Studies from Case Western Reserve University and a Master of Arts Degree in City Planning from the University of Rhode Island.  He is an active member of NAIOP, currently serving as Vice President of Chapter Affairs.

Mark J. Strangio, Controller

As Controller, Mark Strangio is responsible for supervising the accounting and cash management operations of the company.  He also works with outside tax professionals and legal counsel in the tax analysis and internal structuring of acquisitions, dispositions and other transactions.  Prior to joining Bulfinch in 1990, Mr. Strangio worked in the accounting department of New England Development.

 

Mr. Strangio is a graduate of Babson College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting and holds a Masters of Science Degree in Taxation from Bentley College

Leaura Levine, Marketing Assistant

As Bulfinch’s Marketing Assistant, Ms. Levine works closely with senior management on all marketing initiatives, including public relations, advertising, web development and prospective and current tenant outreach.

 

Previously, Ms. Levine was employed at Arnold Worldwide, where she provided client service for a number of high-profile accounts, including Volkswagen and the American Legacy Association.


Ms. Levine graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics.  She is a member of the Boston Young Professionals Association, and volunteers weekly for Boston Partners in Education.
